3D Printed Chess Pieces - Ideas/ Sketches
So far my focus for this project is to continue with the general themes of my studio practice which incorporates a mix of fibre and metals outside of this class.
Based on my previous JWLM class projects (I made these rings:), I want to use this chess piece project to assist in industrializing the making process for my jewellery works moving forward.
From here I hope to explore the following objects sketched below:
Further refined and developed as shown below:
Items include:
-Yarn basket
-Yarn baller
-Yarn swift
-Yarn in recognizable shapes (skien/ ball)
-Knitting in progress
-Body form & sweater
-identical base stands/supports
(All solid or hollow forms - no moving parts or additional material - though I will consider that as a possibility for the finished product - I could even consider removing the detail of the yarn in the sweater and yarn balls to actually be knit to reduce the labour of modeling each thread - by using real fibrous material)
These forms may be too complex for the amount of working time going into the project, so I will keep you posted on my ideas a they shift to best fit the assignment.
Pros-
Good sample for understanding 3D printing using FDM (I believe) printers now in connection to beginning to move towards printing in SLA to cast in the next semesters.
Cons/ Sharp learning curve-
Will require a lot of supports to print overhangs and slim areas.
Thanks for reading :)
